Industry Leaders: Corporate Profile - Dental Lab Products - 1

CORPORATE PROFILE \\\\ SPONSORED BY B&D DENTAL Precision Digital Solutions Steve Campbell [GENERAL MANAGER] Driven by forward thinking innovation. Continually developing software, milling, and sintering solutions to improve the output of the end product, B&D Dental is driven by technicians for technicians seeking increased productivity and efciency. We visited with Steve Campbell, General Manager, to get his viewpoint on what has made B&D so successful and what drives B&D’s “future-proof” philosophy. DLP: B&D Dental has become a major player in dental CAD /CAM products in a relatively short period of time. To what do you attribute your growth and success? Campbell: We understand that while dental laboratory owners see the need to benefit from CAD/CAM technologies and feel some pressure to hurry and become part of this future, they also are burdened with the reality that there are many different systems on the market and just as many philosophies on the best way for laboratories to get involved. The ORIGIN CAD/CAM solution brings an essential mix of technical knowledge, product innovation, superior customer support and raw passion that resonates with laboratory owners and helps guide them through the process of effectively integrating the benefits of CAD/CAM into their business. B&D Dental has been in the dental industry for a little more than 14 years and we have always had a clear vision and focus of the industry and our role within it. We started as a small dental laboratory and then quickly began developing products that we knew would bring the benefits and added value to dental laboratories that we, as dental technicians, had been looking for. Since this time, we have transitioned completely from dental laboratory to dental laboratory supply/manufacturing with our two focused product lines being the Artimax Articulators and ORIGIN CAD/CAM systems. While we believe the ORIGIN milling system is superior in quality, material diversity, and cost efficiency, we know this is just the starting point for laboratories who are investing in ORIGIN. Our customer service, support and continued material competitiveness are the real defining factors for long-term success for B&D Dental and our ORIGIN partner laboratories. This is why we provide laboratory owners with clear decision making tools such as CAD/CAM value analysis guides and actual “realistic” in-house production cost figures. dentallabproducts DLP: The ORIGIN system is known for offering a variety of material solutions. What is your viewpoint on the importance of such a diverse selection and what materials do you see as growth areas moving forward? Campbell: Zirconia has been the driving product for CAD/CAM systems and will continue to be strong, particularly with the overwhelming interest in full contour zirconia crowns. While zirconia and other all-ceramic restorations are expected to show continued growth, they currently account for just 25% of the crown and bridge market. The versatility of the ORIGIN CAD/CAM system allows dental laboratories to not only follow the trends of all-ceramic milling but also cover the remaining wide range of products currently requested by dentists, such as metal alloys including non-precious or base metals. In addition to the current product range is our “future-proof” philosophy focused on identifying and integrating materials that are yet to be released. NobleTitan titanium is one of the material solutions that we have seen a very positive response from both dentists and laboratories. We have overcome past difficulties with esthetics and porcelain bonding previously associated with titanium substructures to unlock the many benefits of titanium for dental applications such as biocompatibility, x-ray radiolucency, and high strength. Another competitive advantage of titanium is that the ADA classifies titanium between noble and high noble alloys, which means insurance companies pay out more for titanium than noble alloys based on the titanium insurance code (D2794). With the added benefit that dental laboratories can produce or outsource for NobleTitan PFT crowns (porcelain fused to titanium) at a lower cost than typical noble metal materials alone, PFTs have started replacing noble and high noble metals as the next generation dental alloy of choice. lab dlpmagazine.com

Competitively priced and entirely capable, the ORIGIN systems provide streamlined, cost effective, and “dead-on” accurate CAD /CAM production, giving your laboratory the absolute advantage. The small OR IGIN Pro 1000 is the most economical dry milling solution for zirconia, wax and temporaries. The wet module can be added at any time to provide milling of ceramic materials such as Vita TriLuxe Forte. The Pro 3000 units and higher provide further modularization with the option to add the metal milling module. The ORIGIN CAD/CAM solutions by B&D Dental are...
