Boston Shearmill

Boston Shearmill

Boston Shearmill

Product catalog summary
Overview: The Boston Shearmill is a high-performance machine designed for extreme shear rates and tip speeds, ideal for reducing droplet and particle sizes. It is suitable for milling soft particles to under 1 micron and hard particles to 1-2 microns, often achieving this in a single pass at high production rates.
Applications: The machine is used in various industries, including food processing (e.g., tomato paste, ketchup, mustard, salad dressings), pet foods, soups, sauces, flavor emulsions, pharmaceuticals, and polymers.
Design Features: Each rotor/stator shear head features a double ring design, creating three high-intensity work zones per shear head. Models with three shear heads offer nine work zones, maximizing shear forces. The machine outperforms inline mixers, conventional shearpumps, and colloid mills.
Specifications: The Boston Shearmill is available in models ranging from 5 to 55 kW, with throughput capacities from 18 to 625 liters per minute, depending on feed rate and viscosity. It features a single mechanical quench seal rated for 48 bar, with an optional double seal, and complies with 3A (#36-01) standards.
Construction: The machine is built with precision, featuring wire-cut radii, double thickness housings, and a cartridge design for easy servicing. The rotor and stator are made from AISI 316L or 17-4 stainless steel, dynamically balanced for smooth operation. The machine uses super precision ball bearings (ABEC 7) and operates at a running temperature of 38°C or less.
Cleanability: All units meet 3-A sanitary standards, with surfaces polished to a Ra 0.8 µm or better, ensuring no crevices or deadlegs.
Performance: The Boston Shearmill is designed for continuous 24/7 operation, minimizing downtime and maintenance needs. It combines a proven rotor-stator principle with advanced seal and bearing technologies, ensuring durability and reliability.

Boston Shearmill-1

Boston Shearmill High Intensity Wet Milling, Homogenizing & Particle Reduction Outperforms inline mixers, conventional shearpumps and colloid mills The Boston Shearmill is our ultimate machine for providing high to extreme shear rates and tip speeds for maximum droplet and particle size reduction. If your process requires milling of soft particles to under 1 micron, or hard particles down to 1-2 microns, the Boston Shearmill will meet this criteria, often with just a single pass at high production rates! The Boston Shearmill has replaced colloid mills and homogenizers where submicron processing was not necessary. Existing installations include tomato paste enhancement and standardization, ketchup and mustard production, salad dressing and mayonnaise, pet foods and treats, soups and sauces, flavor emulsions, pharmaceutical formulations, polymers and more. Each rotor/stator shear head has a double ring design, resulting in three distinct, high intensity work zones at each shear head location (up to 3) where the mixture passes. Models with three shear heads provide nine high shear work zones to handle your toughest processing needs. This residence time between the stages allows for creating tremendous mechanical and hydraulic energy for applying maximum shear forces into the product. The best built, heavy duty, all purpose inline milling machine on the market • Standard shear head grades include coarse, medium, and fine • Special purpose heads available for texturizing and blending without damaging or altering solids and desired consistency • Shearmill models available from 5 - 55 kW, providing product throughput from 18 - 625 l/min depending upon feed rate and viscosity • Features single mechanical quench seal rated for 48 bar, (double seal optional), and complies with 3A (#36-01) standards Your Mixing Technology Partner

Boston Shearmill-2

The Boston Shearmill BSM-25, 37 & 60 A wet mill should be judged by how well it does its job, but equally important is that the machine be strong enough to work day after day and year after year, with as little need for service as possible. The Boston Shearmill is designed for 24 / 7 operation, through your most critical processing schedules when downtime is not an option. The Boston Shearmill combines a well-proven rotor-stator principle with the latest innovations in seal design and bearing support technology. The design is deceptively simple but exceptionally durable. The engineering goal...
