The sensor uses a 4-electrode technology with graphite and platinum electrodes. An alternating current of constant voltage is applied between the primary graphite electrodes, while the secondary platinum electrodes regulate the voltage to account for fouling. Conductivity is measured based on the resistance between the primary electrodes.

The Digital C4E sensor stores calibration and history data, enabling a plug-and-play system without re-calibration. It uses the Universal Modbus RS485 protocol for connectivity with various devices.
