There are basically two ways of applying gas “over pressure” to molten metal within a “bottom pour” vacuum casting machine and the system which appears to be most effective is the one currently used in dental casting. In this system, both flask and crucible are located in a common chamber, which is first fully evacuated and then the metal poured. Since vacuum is not applied to the flask interior through the pores of the investment, the metal cannot completely occupy the mould until a positive pressure is applied with air or inert gas, resulting in a casting which is dense and compact...
