Radiation-free Solution for Measuring Bone Age At least 5% of children aged 5-18 are affected by short stature and/or growth abnormalities, with various types of treatments prescribed in order to enable these children to attain normal adult height. Such children are routinely tested for skeletal maturity to track their growth development; and many others are tested to identify growth patterns and deficiencies. Standard testing involves x-ray measurement of the patient’s left hand, and is usually performed once or twice each year for those under growth supervision. Sunlight BonAge, a unique ultrasound-based sonometer, is the optimal way to test bone age without exposing children and adolescents to ionizing x-ray radiation. Pediatric skeletal testing of children aged 5-18 can be done in the physician’s office, eliminating the need to send patients to external testing facilities.
