What is carbon monoxide (CO)? Carbon monoxide (CO), known as the silent killer, is a colourless, odourless, highly poisonous gas that is produced when fuels are burned incompletely. It is produced in car exhaust fumes, faulty gas boilers and tobacco smoke1.
