PolyPIN

Product catalog summary
Introduction
The PolyPIN is a bioresorbable bone pin made from a polylactide copolymer, designed to dissolve after fulfilling its stabilizing role, eliminating the need for a second surgery to remove metal implants. This reduces patient stress and potential complications.

Material and Degradation
Made from Poly(L-lactide-co-D,L-lactide) 70/30, the PolyPIN maintains flexural strength for 24 weeks, allowing sufficient time for bone healing. It degrades through hydrolysis into lactic acid, which is metabolized into CO₂ and H₂O. Complete mechanical degradation occurs within 15 months, with full absorption by 24 months.

Indications
The PolyPIN is suitable for fractures under low load stress, with different sizes for specific applications:
  • PolyPIN 1.5: Bone fragment fixation, finger/toe arthrodeses, certain finger fractures.
  • PolyPIN 2.0: Apical fragments, osteochondral fractures, lightly load-bearing fragments.
  • PolyPIN 2.7: Large osteochondral fragments.

Design
The PolyPIN features a head that applies slight compression and circular ribs to prevent slipping. It is available in three diameters (1.5, 2.0, 2.7 mm) with varying lengths.

Application Procedure
  • Drilling: Drill a hole matching the PolyPIN diameter perpendicular to the fracture surface.
  • Length Measurement: Use a depth gauge to determine the drilled channel's depth and shear the PolyPIN to 1 mm less than this depth.
  • Shortening: Secure the PolyPIN and shear to the required length using the shearing head.
  • Tip Adjustment: Use a sharpener to adjust the pin tip for easier insertion.
  • Impacting: Use a special impacting device and hammer to insert the PolyPIN, ensuring it is not jammed and is positioned correctly.

PolyPIN-2

Bioresorbable bone pin from polylactide IMPLANT. Metal implants are normally removed in a second operation, once the bone has healed. This not only means additional expense, but is also stressful for the patient. What is more, a second stay in hospital is necessary to remove the metal, involving absence from work and increased risk of complications. The ideal osteosynthesis implant should, therefore, simply dissolve after it has fulfilled its stabilising or fixing task, without subjecting the body to an additional burden in doing so. The PolyPIN is such an implant. It is a pin made of a polylactide...

Bioresorbable bone pin from polylactide PolyPIN* Bioresorbable bone pin from polylactide PolyPIN* locking screw APPLICATION Drilling After reducing the fragments, drill a hole of the same diameter as the PolyPIN - diameter 1,5 mm for the PolyPIN 1.5 - diameter 2,0 mm for the PolyPIN 2.0 - diameter 2,7 mm for the PolyPIN 2.7 perpendicular to the surface of the fracture. If more than one PolyPIN is used, the drilled holes should not run parallel, but converge, to ensure secure fixation of the fragment. Length measurement After loosening the locking screw, insert the measuring tip of the appropriate...
