Product catalog summary
Overview: The BD8/BD9 Series Integral Sensors are designed for air bubble, air-in-line, and liquid level sensing, combining BD3 electronics with a free-entry sensor head. The BD8 is made of soft polyurethane for rigid tubing, while the BD9 is constructed from rigid epoxy or ABS plastic for flexible tubing.
Technology: These sensors use high-frequency acoustic energy to detect air or liquid presence in tubing. Piezoelectric crystals emit ultrasonic pulses that, if interrupted by air, trigger a warning signal. This non-invasive technology does not require fluid contact or tubing interruption.
Highlights: Key features include fast air bubble detection, low power consumption, and high EMI/RFI noise immunity. The sensors operate on 5, 12, or 24 VDC and are suitable for a wide range of tubing types. They are customizable for specific air detection thresholds and bubble sizes.
Applications: The sensors are used in medical devices such as apheresis, heart-lung bypass, dialysis, and infusion pumps, as well as in diagnostic equipment and liquid dispensing systems.
Certifications: The sensors comply with various standards, including IEC 61000-4-4:2004 for electrical fast transients and IEC 60601-1:1988 for general safety requirements.
Functional Specifications: The sensors operate within a temperature range of +41° to +140° F and a humidity range of 0 to 95% non-condensing. They feature a self-test input for electronic checks and have specific response times for detecting air and liquid transitions.
Warranty: Introtek offers a three-year warranty against defects in materials or workmanship, with repair or replacement provided at no cost other than transportation.

BD8/BD9 Series Integral Sensors The BD8/BD9 integral sensors combine BD3 electronics with a free-entry sensor head for air bubble, air-in-line and liquid level sensing. Introtek BD8/BD9 Integral sensors combine BD3 electronics with a free-entry sensor head. Constructed of soft polyurethane, the BD8 is recommended for rigid tubing. The rigid epoxy or ABS plastic BD9 is recommended for flexible tubing. HIGHLIGHTS ♦ Non-invasive technology does not contact the fluid or require a break in the tubing. ♦ Integral design facilitates integration into user's product design and minimizes connections. ♦ Fastest air bubble detection INTROTEK circuitry available. CERTIFICATIONS ♦ No coupling agents required. ♦ Low cost, premium performance. ♦ Low power consumption. ♦ 5, 12 or 24 VDC operation. ♦ Reliable surface mount components. ♦ Built in self-test and fail-safe logic. ♦ High EMI and RFI noise immunity. ♦ Not affected by color of fluid. ♦ Can be used by a wide range of rigid and soft tubing. ♦ Custom manufactured systems are available. ♦ Air detection threshold or bubble size can be user-specified. TECHNOLOGY Introtek air bubble detectors and liquid level sensors utilize high-frequency acoustic energy to monitor tubing or vessels for the presence of air, air bubbles, foam or liquid. The sensor's piezoelectric crystals are placed in direct contact with the desired point of detection. Air detection sensors and electronics emit pulses of ultrasonic energy which are sent through tubing and returned within a specified “window” of time. If air is present, the ultrasonic signal does not arrive within this “window” of time and a warning or dry signal is immediately transmitted. ♦ Air bubble, air-in-line and liquid level sensing ♦ Patient-connected medical devices, including: • Apheresis • Heart-lung bypass • Auto-transfusion • Dialysis • Infusion pumps • Cardiac assist pumps • Perfusion-based “life support” devices ♦ Immunoassay and diagnostic equipment ♦ Liquid and chemical dispensing ♦ Blood processing equipment
