Cascade DAFO Inc 1360 Sunset Avenue Ferndale, WA 98248 phone: 1-800-848-7332 fax: 1-877-856-2160 website: www.dafo.com DAFO 7: Minimum Control Foot Orthosis Hotdogs, Pattibobs, JRAs and Custom Hotdogs KEY CONCEPT: STIMULATES BETTER VOLUNTARY CONTROL THROUGH INCREASED POSITIONAL AWARENESS AND MILD BIOMECHANICAL SUPPORT. Hotdogs, Pattibobs and JRAs have all the contours and shapes of a custom footplate. There are two important foot dimensions to consider when ordering. Length is the most important factor. Using the sizing chart provided, place the patient’s foot over the outlines to find the length that puts the heel in the heel pocket and the metatarsal heads in their correct location. DO NOT MATCH OVERALL LENGTH OF FOOT TO TRACING. Most of the time the Hotdog is longer than the patient’s foot in the toe shelf when the heel and met heads are correctly located. Width is determined after you have chosen the length. Wide sizes usually fit the smaller children, but there are exceptions. Our sizing charts show the wide sizes only; if the foot is narrower, please choose a medium when ordering. Use with patients who: 1. Exhibit delayed foot control skill, but have voluntary control initiated. 2. Have poor sensory integration and “work” feet continually. 3. Have more involved lower extremity on other side requiring bracing. 4. Are neurologically normal, but need comfortable biomechanical support. 5. Have Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. Hotdogs are pre-made dense foam shoe inserts. They are designed to give mild mechanical support and proprioception to the patient. Made from resilient, flexible materials, they are intended for the patient who has fairly good graded muscle motion in the lower extremities and feet, with little direct control of foot position. 2 layers foam; generic sizes: 3-10 medium and wide, 10.2510.75 wide only. Pattibobs are pre-made shoe inserts with a bottom layer of thin plastic instead of the foam layer of the Hotdog, making it a more resilient and supportive orthotic. For feet that need more structural support, the Pattibob works well. 1 layer foam + 1 layer polyethylene; generic sizes: 3-10 medium and wide, 10.25-10.75 wide only. CUSTOM HOTDOG JRAs are pre-made shoe inserts to be used with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis patients. They provide good contoured support, with excellent pressure relief along the metatarsal heads. Two layers of foam plus a substructure that gives support to the hindfoot and stops behind the metatarsal heads to provide a drop off for this area. 2 layers soft foam + 1 layer firm foam; generic sizes unless otherwise specified. The Custom Hotdog is intended for patient’s who require more specific support and is fabricated from a mold of the patient’s foot. Materials are foam, cork, and vinyl. If specified on the order form, extra support can be added in the arch using soft or medium foam. The Custom Hotdog works well for eight years to adult. Made from patient’s mold; 1 layer foam + 1 layer cork +1 layer vinyl; sized as cast. CASCADE: DAFO 7 INFO1 (Rev:01 May01)
