Dorsiflexion Assist DAFO 4.5 - 1

Cascade DAFO Inc 1360 Sunset Avenue Ferndale, WA 98248 phone: 1-800-848-7332 fax: 1-877-856-2160 website: www.dafo.com Dorsiflexion Assist DAFO 4.5 KEY CONCEPT: DORSIFLEXION ASSIST FOR LOW TONE, WEAKNESS; FAIR FOOT CONTROL Provides good dorsiflexion assist when patient is hypotonic weak. Will not resist strong plantarflexion or foot fixing. Works well for patients who have inconsistent foot placement and lack control on swing phase. Dorsiflexion assist and enhanced M/L stability keeps foot in good position during swing phase, preventing excessive supination or pronation. Mild spring provides more consistent toe pickup, but does not block normal ankle motion during gait. Forefoot closure enhances the biomechanical position of the forefoot and can be posted, if necessary. USE WITH PATIENTS WHO: 1. Lack consistency in foot and ankle control due to weakness or poor proprioception; does not work for high tone feet. 2. Show fair to poor control, especially in swing phase. 3. Have fairly good foot alignment when corrected. 4. Desire minimum possible AFO for assistance rather than total control and can function fairly well with no external support. This 4.5 model is shown with instep strap, anterior strap, standard padding, and toe rise. Hindfoot: moderate, low to normal tone. Forefoot: moderate, low to normal tone. Ankle: ASSIST dorsiflexion, good medial/lateral stability, if not high tone.
