Hemi Style DAFO

Hemi Style DAFO

Product catalog summary
Overview: The document provides technical specifications and recommendations for two types of Dynamic Ankle Foot Orthoses (DAFO) designed by Cascade DAFO Inc. These orthoses are intended for patients with varying levels of muscle tone and stability needs.
Specifications:
  • Trimline “A” - More Rigid: Designed for patients with stronger muscle tone and/or strong knee hyperextension. It offers good medial/lateral stability and is made of co-poly material, allowing conversion to a more flexible trimline. Standard ankle padding is included but can be omitted. The dorsiflexion angle can be adjusted with foam shims, but the plantarflexion angle is fixed. It includes a “Hemi” instep strap and can be worn with shoes. Recommended accessories include a flexible toe lever, pre-tibial strap, and stabilizing heel post.
  • Trimline “B” - More Flexible: Suitable for patients with some voluntary dorsiflexion who may experience fatigue and risk toe dragging. It requires good medial-lateral stability. The brace should be cast in about 4º of dorsiflexion for optimal performance. Like Trimline “A”, it includes standard ankle padding and a “Hemi” instep strap. It is superior to standard leaf spring AFOs due to its strength and design. Recommended accessories are similar to Trimline “A”.
Recommendations: Both DAFO styles recommend the use of additional strapping and support features to enhance stability and performance. The document emphasizes the importance of proper casting angles to ensure effective use.

Hemi Style DAFO-1

Cascade DAFO Inc 1360 Sunset Avenue Ferndale, WA 98248 phone: 1-800-848-7332 fax: 1-877-856-2160 website: www.dafo.com Hemi Style DAFO The maximum control DAFO is for patients with stronger tone and/or strong knee hyperextension. It provides good medial/lateral stability. MORE RIGID This DAFO is made of co-poly, which allows the DAFO to be converted to the more flexible trimline below. It has standard ankle padding, which can be omitted on request. The dorsiflexion angle can be increased slightly by adding foam shims of 1/8” or 1/4” to the posterior calf area. Plantarflexion angle cannot be changed. This DAFO incorporates the “Hemi” instep strap, which has a slotted instep pad as standard. The DAFO can be put on while in the shoe. A flexible toe lever, pre-tibial strap and stabilizing heel post are recommended. The moderate to minimum control of plantarflexion DAFO is designed for patients who have some voluntary dorsiflexion, but fatigue and are at risk of toe dragging. Patients wearing this style must have good medial-lateral stability. MORE FLEXIBLE We recommend casting in about 4º of dorsiflexion or have the brace made to this angle. This tends to load the posterior leaf for easy toe clearance and smooth heel strike. As in the “A” trimline, the brace has standard ankle padding which can be omitted on request. This DAFO incorporates the “Hemi” instep strap, which has a slotted instep pad as standard. The DAFO can be put on while in the shoe. This DAFO is far superior to the “off the shelf” leaf spring AFO due to its strength, strapping design and plantar surface which extends to the end of the toes. A flexible toe lever, pre-tibial strap and stabilizing heel post are recommended.
