Product catalog summary
Overview
The document provides technical details and applications of the Visiopor® PP 34N camera, a device used to monitor acne lesions through skin fluorescence.

Specifications
The Visiopor® PP 34N camera measures 12 x 5.5 x 5.5 cm with a cable length of 1.5 m. It uses 16 UVA-LEDs with a wavelength range of 375-385 nm to illuminate a measurement area of 6.4 x 8 mm. The camera has a resolution of 1280 x 1024 and includes a button to freeze images. It connects via USB 2.0 and requires a computer running Windows® 10/11.

Measurement Principle
The camera uses specific UV-light to visualize fluorescing acne lesions. The orange-red fluorescence indicates the presence of Cutibacterium acnes in both clinically non-evident and evident lesions.

Applications
The device is used in cosmetology for detecting early invisible lesions and visualizing advanced acne lesions. It aids in efficacy testing of anti-bacterial products and determining the comedogenic activity of topical products. The software allows for easy evaluation of fluorescent spots, distinguishing between red-orange (porphyrins) and yellow-greenish spots.

Acne Pathogenesis
Acne is a disorder of the pilosebaceous follicles, often beginning in adolescence. It involves clogged hair follicles and colonization by C. acnes bacteria, leading to inflamed lesions. The presence of porphyrins is demonstrated by orange-red fluorescence under UV-A light, correlating with the density of C. acnes and porphyrin content.

Visiopor® PP 34 N (2025)-1

What Does It Measure? The Visiopor® PP 34N camera uses a specific UV-light to visualize the fluorescing acne lesions of an area of 6.4 x 8 mm. The orange-red fluorescence indicates the presence of Cutibacterium acnes within clinically non-evident (follicular impactions and microcomedones) and clinically evident (comedones, papules and pustules) lesions. Acne is a common disorder of the pilosebaceous follicles with a multifactorial pathogenesis. It typically begins in adolescence when androgen hormones stimulate the production of sebum and proliferation of follicular epidermis. The openings of hair follicles become clogged with oil secretion and corneocytes. In consequence initially invisible lesions (microcomedones) and then clinically evident comedones develop. Microcomedones and Skin Fluorescence comedones are further colonized by C. acnes bacteria which promote inflamed acne lesions (papules and pustules) through the production of proinflammatory mediators, free fatty acids and porphyrins. The presence of porphyrins can be demonstrated by orange-red fluorescence in the follicle openings when examining the skin under appropriate UV-A light. The intensity of follicular fluorescence and the extent of facial involvement are proportional to the population densitiy of C. acnes and porphyrin content at the skin surface. An improvement of acne is accompanied by significant reduction of the porphyrin concentration and the number of C. acnes, respectively.
