ITEX Dynamic Headspace

Product catalog summary
Overview: The ITEX Dynamic Headspace is a powerful tool for the enrichment of volatile and semi-volatile compounds from various sample types, including solid, liquid, and gaseous forms. It utilizes in-tube extraction and thermal desorption with industry-standard adsorbents, offering a syringe-only concept that eliminates contamination risks associated with sample loops and transfer lines.
Key Features:
  • Active cooling for rapid sample preparation and short cycle times.
  • No modifications required for the GC injector.
  • Integration with PAL Robotic Tool Change for versatile sampling capabilities.
Applications: The ITEX Dynamic Headspace is suitable for a wide range of applications, including environmental analysis (e.g., VOCs in water), food and flavor analysis, chemical analysis, and clinical studies.
Procedure:
  • Sample is heated/agitated in a sealed vial.
  • ITEX needle extracts headspace gas through a cold trap.
  • Optional water removal step.
  • Trap is flash heated to desorb analytes into the GC injector.
  • Trap is cleaned with inert gas post-desorption.
Performance: The ITEX system offers high sensitivity and efficiency, with the ability to handle multiple workflows on a single system. It provides a significant advantage over traditional Purge & Trap systems by avoiding common pitfalls and offering enhanced sensitivity.
Technical Specifications:
  • Agitator Module: Incubation temperatures from 40-200°C, agitation speeds of 250-750 rpm.
  • Vortex Mixer Module: Efficient mixing for reagent addition and liquid/liquid extraction.
  • SPME Tool: Automatic sampling with increased fiber protection.
  • Headspace Tool: Consistent sampling with various syringe sizes.
Environmental and Food Applications: The document provides detailed examples of environmental applications, such as the detection of VOCs in water, and food applications, comparing ITEX with Poropak Filter techniques.
Conclusion: The ITEX Dynamic Headspace offers a robust and versatile solution for the enrichment and analysis of volatile compounds, with applications across multiple sectors. Its integration with PAL systems enhances productivity and method optimization.

The sample is heated and / or agitated in a sealed vial. The ITEX needle pierces the sealed vial and the heated syringe pumps the the headspace gas through the cold trap. The loaded ITEX trap is flash heated up to 350°C and analytes are desorbed into the hot GC injector. After thermal desorption the hot ITEX trap is cleaned with inert flush gas. Active cooling allows for short cycle times. An additional step to remove water from the trap can be added. nJrl Desorption Trap cleaning Active cooling
