Here are the results *Based on five responses Sylc is an innovative range of therapeutic prophy powders that improves preventive dental care and its delivery. It works by sealing exposed dentine to provide long-term relief from dental hypersensitivity. It also protects and soothes dental tissues, and provides fast removal of heavy staining - it is capable of whitening patients' teeth by up to four Vita shades in this way, returning enamel to its natural brightness. All of these benefits are due to the properties of the active ingredient: a bioactive glass called Novamin. Sylc is available in stain removal (SR) and polishing (P) formulations, and can be used before and after both whitening and scaling treatments and in a number of roles in modern dental therapy. For this product review, Sylc was sent to six independent dental professionals to be evaluated. Here are the findings of the hands-on evaluation. The results While the majority of respondents (66%) thought the clarity of instructions for use was fair, all agreed that they found Sylc easy to use. In terms of patient comfort, 50% reported treatment as being very comfortable, with some patients commenting on the product being 'less prickly' on soft tissue. Sixty per cent of respondents said that patients 'Gave me more confidence to use around sensitive areas' 'Removed stains very quickly and effectively' 'I had excellent results with a patient who suffers from severe sensitivity and finds scaling unbearable' 'Only a small amount is required for a full mouth prophylaxis' found the taste of Sylc to be good. Clinicians and patients were in agreement on the effectiveness of the product - with 83% rating it as excellent. The majority of the clinicians that trialled Sylc commented on how impressed they were at its ability to remove stains quickly and easily, as well as when using it for patients with severe sensitivity. Eighty per cent of the respondents reported 'excellent' short-term results and were looking forward to seeing the long-term results.
