Introduction Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) is a very useful test in monitoring diabetic patients. It is a measure of the mean amount of blood glucose present in the patient over the previous 3 months and is therefore useful as a monitoring tool. In order to measure HbA1c it has to be separated from the non-glycated hemoglobin. The DS5 system is intended for the measurement of HbA1c in blood samples.
