Arteriovenus Fistula Medication (AVF) Components of AVF dialysis kit can be the following: • Absorbent and waterproof sterile sheet to be placed under the patient’s arm or to create a sterile field during the dressing procedure. Also available sterile sheets with a cut, hole and an adhesive. • Gloves, various sizes (latex, nitrile, vinyl) • Sterile gauze pads (in cotton or nonwoven fabric) • Plastic clamp used to stop fluids flow in the lines (clamping of the tubes) • Disposable multipurpose clamp used to hold towels, swabs and gauzes • Air-permeable adhesive plasters in non-woven fabric to help fix the needles in place • Fistula-pressing bandage or fistula pressing plasters for final medication • Fistula-pressing armlets for haemostasis at the end of the dialysis • Catheter protective pocket • Syringes and needles • Device for disposal of the fistula needle after use • Containment trays First-choice vascular access is Arteriovenous Fistula (AVF). It consists of an artificial communication between an artery and a vein, obtained through surgical procedure, in order to divert high pressure arterial blood into the high capacity venous system to obtain adequate blood flows to carry out dialysis treatment. The procedure usually lasts 4 hours and is performed 3 times a week.
