1. Healthy Gingiva

• No bleeding on probing.
• Gingiva appears healthy.
• Probing depth: Not needed or minimal.

2. Gingivitis

• Presence of shallow periodontal pockets.
• No bone loss detected.
• Bleeding on probing is present.
• Probing depth approximately 4 mm.

3. Periodontitis

• Deep periodontal pockets observed.
• Bone loss is evident.
• Bleeding on probing occurs.
• No suppuration (pus) in non-suppurating periodontitis.
• Probing depth can reach up to 10 mm.

4. Suppurating Periodontitis

• Bone loss present.
• Bleeding on probing.
• Suppuration (pus formation) is evident.
• Probing depth ranges from 4 mm to 9-10 mm.

Probing Tips and Recommendations

• PS tip (periodontal probe tip) is used for measuring pocket depths.
• PS tip is used only supra-gingivally if calculus is present.
• Probing depths guide the need for intervention; healthy sites may not require probing.
