Alien E - 4

Eurocolumbus was born in 1972; during 2004 it was the first Italian company to equip its C-arms with Flat Panel Detectors (then produced and marketed by VARIAN, now named VAREX); this generated a very rapid technological growth. In the following years the final product was totally updated and renewed while following the original project, which was based on an isocentric and motorized C-arm, very safe thanks to the anti-collision sensors and a generator separated from the X-Ray tube. Eurocolumbus is the only Italian manufacturer of C-arms that can boast a real internal R&D department. The...

EtherCAT Eurocolumbus was the first Italian company to use the new EtherCAT technology, by far the fastest Ethernet technology. EtherCAT allows synchronization times with magnitude of nanoseconds. The use of EtherCAT technology brings significant benefits in terms of speed and reliability to all the Applications developed and therefore installed on the systems. The efficiency of the Applications increases thanks to the reduction of waiting times in the transitions between the various phases of the processes. Movement control Exposure time control Anticollision The heart of the machine is...

Acquisition algorithm The big turning point was during 2012 ! Eurocolumbus abandoned the Windows O.S. and switched to LINUX, the true real time O.S.. Fly5, the software developed under LINUX by Eurocolumbus R&D, is able to process radiological images with a maximum resolution of 3k x 3k in real time. All the images are acquired, processed and stored in 16 bits, taking profit of best technologies available on the market. In order to guarantee full compliance with clinical requirements and not to create artifacts, no digital compression is performed on the images. In order to obtain...

The heart of the algorithm consists in a Multi-Scale analysis with pyramidal decomposition of the images, based on the representation in terms of wavelet, then waves confined both in space and in spatial frequency. The RAW image obtained by the detector undergoes a series of filtering and sub-sampling that allow to extract and separate the different levels of information of the image according to a Gaussian-Laplacian decomposition.

The EDM and EAC functions guarantee images always perfectly exposed and with the lowest possible dose, even if the image is not perfectly centered. The two functions act in real time thanks to a closed loop control “image quality radiological parameters” total control at every point of acquisitio

Each body district requires different settings of the radiological parameters The EDM function (Eurocolumbus Dose Management) adapts the dose to the characteristics of the body district under examination, the evaluation is made at each point of the detector. The EAC function (Eurocolumbus Automatic Control) determines and sets the correct exposure time to obtain the lowest possible dose. Both functions act in real time.

2019 was born from the experience gained in over 15 years of work on Flat Panel Detectors technology and in over 40 years working on traditional C-arms. Eurocolumbus introduce our made in Italy The current product, alien X, has been completely redesigned compared to the previous famous and successful series. This guarantees that it can satisfy all Hospital Departments requirements, without any distinction.

Since the beginning Eurocolumbus adopted the technical choice of having the generator separated from the X-Ray complex; the EPB system (Eurocolumbus Power Boost) has been developed and introduced in series production from about one year. EPB has been specifically developed for clinical applications where high instantaneous power peaks are required (impulsive absorption), while allowing the withdrawal of the necessary energy from existing electrical network equipped with 13 - 16 A electrical plugs. The EPB system stores a large amount of energy inside itself; then this energy is made...

X-Ray tube alien e uses the latest generation X-Ray tubes with Titanium, Zirconium and Molybdenum (TZM) plate. The advantages compared to the use of pure Molybdenum plates are: better resistance to creep, higher recrystallization temperature, higher heat resistance. • • • • • 600 kHU anodic capacity 154 kHU/min anodic dissipation High speed anode rotation 0,3-0,6 mm dual focal spots 1200 W housing diss

WAD + EHC WAD (Water Aided Dissipation): cooling system of the X-Ray tube; thanks to the combination of dielectric oil management inside the radiological complex, the coolant and the advanced heat exchanger, there are no fans in the sterile field. EHC (Eurocolumbus Heat Control): real-time control of the heat produced with immediate actions to change frames / sec and/or pulse and/or imaging and radiological parameters, to ensure optimal system working and avoid overheating.

EPD anticollision system Safety first! The new volumetric systems EPD (Eurocolumbus Proximity Detection) can have different and independent set ups for the FPD side and for the X-Ray tube side, both upper and lower covers. EPD perceives the proximity of anatomical or metal parts by simultaneously stopping the movement of the C-arm before any collision. There are two fundamental reasons why this system is called “smart”: First: the system intervenes and stops all the movements of the C-arm “before” the collision takes place. Second: in case the active anti-collision system intervenes during...

Eurocolumbus began to collaborate since 2004 with the company that was and is one of the largest producers of Flat Panel Detectors in the world, VARIAN (today VAREX). Thanks to this collaboration, Eurocolumbus was the first Company to install a C-arm with this new technology in Italy. The experience accumulated during the recent years and the huge steps ahead taken in the treatment of images allow to say that today the software part is more important than any hardware part of the video chain. However this cannot ignore that the Flat Panel Detector must have some important features,...
