General Description
The EXL-s2 is a MEMS-based inertial sensor with wireless communication capabilities, suitable for motion measurement, acquisition, and transmission. It is particularly useful in medical applications for analyzing body movements, such as posture assessment, rehabilitation, gait monitoring, and joint biomechanics analysis. The device supports multimedia interactions and vibration analysis. It features Bluetooth™ connectivity for interfacing with various devices up to 10 meters away, and 1GB flash memory for data logging. Algorithms for motion characterization and orientation estimation can be implemented on the onboard 32-bit CPU. The hardware and software are fully customizable.
EXL-S2 Kit
The Sensor Data Kit includes:
  • Four Sensor Nodes
  • Tablet-based application for data logging
  • USB hub for charging batteries
  • USB cables
  • User manual
The Sensor Nodes capture inertial movements using a 3-axis accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer, and transmit data via Bluetooth™ to the tablet application. The application is user-friendly, automatically managing Bluetooth™ connections, and allows users to start/stop data streaming and mark significant events. It is compatible with tablets, smartphones, and PCs. The EXL series was developed as part of the FP7 EU CUPID project in collaboration with Micrel lab and Bio lab at DEI, University of Bologna.
