Product catalog summary
Introduction
The ESOP (Atlas) cementless elastic acetabular cup was developed by Dr. Alain Dambreville in 1985. It is widely used due to its ease of implantation and effective results. Key principles include primary stability through press-fit, insert stability in the metal-back, secondary fixation via surface coatings, and polyethylene thickness.
Materials and Design
The ESOP (Atlas) cups are made from titanium alloy TA6V4 ELI with a 2.5 mm thickness. They feature a slot for elasticity, sand-blasting for insert stability, and hydroxyapatite coating for secondary fixation. Variants include the ESOP (Atlas) IIIP with pegs and screw holes, the IVP with pegs but no screw holes, and the MS designed for less invasive surgery without pegs but with a rougher surface coating.
Press-fit and Stability
The cup's slot closes during impaction for a secure press-fit, enhancing bone coaptation. The insert's stability is ensured by an equatorial cylindrical area and a rough internal surface, preventing micro-movement.
Coating and Osteointegration
The hydroxyapatite coating provides secondary stability, promoting rapid and long-lasting bone adherence. This limits the risk of periprosthetic osteolysis by preventing wear particle migration.
Polyethylene Thickness
The 2.5 mm thickness allows for excellent creeping resistance in both traditional and highly cross-linked polyethylene.
Size Range
The ESOP (Atlas) cups range from diameter 46 to 74, accommodating various surgical needs, especially in cup revision cases.
Prosthetic Compatibility
The cups are compatible with stainless steel, CoCr heads, or BIOLOX® FORTE® alumina inserts.

The concept For more than 20 years, FH ORTHOPEDICS has specialized in the manufacturing of cementless total hip prosthesis. The ESOP (Atlas) cup was developed using this expertise and the latest technological advances in terms of bearing, metallurgy and instrumentation. The ESOP (Atlas) concept was born in 1985 as a result of Dr Alain Dambreville’s research. This cementless elastic cup immediately appealed to a large number of surgeons, who continue to implant several thousand every year, across the world. This success is partly due to ease of implant and to its results but also to its essential...

Press-fit The ESOP (Atlas) cup has a slot, which closes during impaction to facilitate penetration into the acetabulum. When the insert is impacted, this slot returns to its initial position, thus applying a major force for coaptation of the bone. Only an elastic cup allows this kind of press-fit. The elasticity of the metalback improves transmission constraint. Intimate osteointegration with no risk of fibrous tissue interposition as a result of using HAP, limits the risk of periprosthetic osteolysis by countering the migration of wear particles. PE thickness The 2.5 mm thickness of the ESOP...
