RAYDROP

Product catalog summary
Description
The Fluigent RayDrop is a patented droplet generation technology that offers the advantages of glass chips, such as resistance to strong chemicals and compatibility with high pressures, without their drawbacks like high cost and leakage issues. It uses standard fittings for sealed connections and allows easy recovery if clogging occurs. The RayDrop can produce water-in-oil and oil-in-water droplets without surface coating or surfactants, ensuring robust and monodispersed droplet production.

Benefits & Features
  • Flexible droplet generation (water-in-oil and oil-in-water)
  • No surfactant or surface coating required
  • High droplet generation rate up to 10,000 Hz
  • Droplet sizes range from 40µm to 130µm
  • Easy cleaning with exchangeable nozzle
  • No leakage with standard HPLC PEEK connectors
  • Easy visualization under a microscope

Detailed Contents
The RayDrop kit includes various tubing, connectors, plugs, ferrules, and a support, designed for easy assembly and use.

Specifications
  • Co-flow focusing design with 2 inputs and 1 output
  • Standard 1/4-28 Flat-Bottom connectors
  • Droplet size: 40 µm to 130 µm
  • Generation rate: 10,000 Hz, potentially higher
  • Capillaries: Nozzle ID 30 µm, Inlet/Outlet ID 150 µm
  • Dimensions: 60 mm x 40 mm x 13 mm, Weight: 205 g
  • Operating pressure: 0-5 bar, Burst pressure: 10 bar
  • Wetted materials include PEEK, FEP, glass, stainless steel, polyimide, Viton, and resin

Technology
The RayDrop combines co-flow and flow-focusing devices to form droplets without surfactants. It can produce droplets of miscible fluids and allows for easy switching between water-in-oil and oil-in-water droplets without surface treatment. The modular design facilitates cleaning and component replacement.

Performance
Optimized for PLGA microparticle production, the RayDrop demonstrates excellent performance with particle monodispersity below 2% CV. It can achieve a wide range of particle sizes when used with Fluigent precision pumps.

Phase Diagram
The document includes a phase diagram showing the relationship between pressure, flow rate, droplet size, and production rate for PLGA particle generation, highlighting the device's capability to produce consistent microparticles under varying conditions.

I DESCRIPTION The Fluigent RayDrop is a patented technology for droplet generation presenting most of the advantages of a glass chips as resistance to strong chemicals and compatibility with high pressures ( > 2 bar). However, glass chips represent a very expensive disposable in everyday lab work, they can lead to leackage issues and have limited lifetime as they are almost impossible to recover once clogged. The RayDrop device uses standard fittings leading to sealed connections and its design allows an easy recovery if clogging occurs. The RayDrop technology has two additional features: one...

PRODUCT DATASHEET TECHNOLOGY The RayDrop is a combination of a co-flow device and a flow-focusing device. When a droplet is formed, at the nozzle, the hydrophobic forces associated to the acceleration of the continuous phase entering the outer capillary produce a droplet without any need of surfactant. The device could even produce droplet of two miscible fluids. The droplets never touch a surface which allows one to make either water-in-oil or oil-in-water droplets on the same device and without any surface treatment. The mechanical design of the RayDrop is done in a modular way so that the...
