Formthotics™ technology - 1

Formthotics™ technology Formthotics™ are the clinicians’ tool Formthotics™ Medical System Formthotics™ are made by Foot Science International in New Zealand, using a unique design and manufacturing process that ensures the ultimate custom orthotic. They have told us why: The Formthotics™ Medical System is a simple assessment, fitting and adjusting process and philosophy to assist clinicians utilise their expertise to quickly and effectively fit Formthotics™. The system includes: Effective THERMOFORMABLE Formthotics™ are thermoformed (heat moulded) at relatively low temperatures and retain the moulded shape. Moulding an orthotic to the shape of the foot provides a truly customised fit. SHOCKSTOP FOAM A unique foam produced by Foot Science International from a hybrid of EVA and polymer foams provides maximum shock absorption and cushioning. This minimises the impact on muscles, joints and tendons, easing recovery time after performance. ANTIMICROBIAL Formthotics™ contain Ultra-Fresh™ which inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi that create foot odour and staining, keeping feet healthy. Used by millions across the world over the past 30 years, Formthotics are a trusted, consistent high quality device. Formthotics are quick and easy to fit. In one visit, the patient can be fitted and is able to assess their effectiveness, providing immediate feedback. Proven FUNCTIONAL SUPPORT The graded medial support ensures the foot is stabilised by providing longitudinal, lateral and transverse arch support. Formax™ Foot Science International’s own foam is made from a range of high grade ‘closed cell’ foams, designed to provide the most flexible, lightweight and supportive orthotic possible. Formthotics are versatile, assisting treatment of a variety of lower extremity problems. Independent, peer reviewed research has proven Formthotics reduce pain, treating and preventing injuries and improving patient comfort. > 6 Tests – simple clinical tests > Formthotics™ – Custom Medical Orthotics > 6 Steps – to fit and adjust Formthotics™ The system helps clinicians expand on the Podiatric Model of treatment, adding sensory neuro-motor concepts to the model, creating a comprehensive clinical method for assessing and improving lower limb function with a custom-fitted orthotic. 6 Steps 1: Motion tests Relates to the general principles of joint function, assessing general biomechanics. The manual assessment of joint motion and the mobilisation of any restrictions by manual therapy. Fit the Formthotics shell into the shoe. Use thermoforming (heat moulding) to custom form to the shape of the sole of the neutral foot, creating a total contact foot orthoses. 2: Alignment test Relates to root biomechanics and assesses open kinetic chain mechanics. Used to assess skeletal alignment. Size charts SIZES Allow a 3 to 7 day break-in period for the patient’s body to adapt to the therapy. 3: Rearfoot adjustment The rearfoot is adjusted by functional posting. Relates to the subtalar joint axis. The clinician manually supinates the foot and grades the force required from 1 to 5. Relates to the windlass mechanism. The clinician manually dorsiflexes the great toe and grades the required force from 1 to 5. 3D MILLED Formthotics™ are 3D milled from a block of foam, ensuring they provide a consistent spread of support across the skeletal system of the foot. 3: Supination resistance test 4: Jack’s test HEEL CUP The deep heel cup provides increased support around the heel, assisting with shock absorption and minimising heel strike. Product catalogue 5: Balance test Relates to proprioception and postural stability. The clinician observes the stability of balance, duration of balance, functional neutral position and the loss of balance (medial or lateral). The forefoot is adjusted by functional posting. 5: In-shoe testing Assess the functional effects of Formthotics while the patient is wearing them in the shoes. 6: On-going adjustment Formthotics should be checked and modified at 3 to 6 month intervals. 6: Forefoot stability test Relates to propulsion. The clinician observes the relative ease of rising onto the toes, stability and the tendency of inversion instability.
