Membrane Filters
ADVANTEC® membrane filters are microporous films used to retain particles or microorganisms larger than their pore size. They are produced using reverse phase solvent casting, biaxial stretching, and track etching processes. Key features include high strength, chemical cleanliness, thin membranes with high porosity, and thermostability for autoclaving.
Performance Characteristics
ADVANTEC membranes are available in various polymers and pore sizes, suitable for applications like microbiology and particle analysis. They offer high porosity, rapid wetting time, and are autoclavable.
Specifications and Ordering Information
The catalogue provides detailed specifications for Mixed Cellulose Ester (MCE) membranes, including pore size, color, surface type, bubble point, flow rate, porosity, and thickness. Ordering information includes pore size, diameter, surface type, and packaging details.
Cellulose Acetate (CA) Membranes
These membranes, composed of cellulose triacetate and diacetate, offer low static charge, high strength, and improved solvent resistance, suitable for enzyme filtration and cytology.
Coated Cellulose Acetate
Used as clarifying filters or prefilters, these membranes feature low protein binding and enhanced chemical compatibility.
Hydrophilic PTFE Membrane Filters
These filters offer high chemical and pH resistance, high flow rates, and are optically clear when wet. They are suitable for HPLC and mixtures of aqueous and organic solvents but are not recommended for autoclaving.
Hydrophobic PTFE Membrane Filters
Supported by polypropylene for improved handling, these filters are thermostable and suitable for sterilizing gases and venting.
Polycarbonate Membrane Filters
These filters are characterized by low non-specific binding and chemical stability, used in microscopy and beverage testing.
Mixed Cellulose Esters (MCE) Membrane Filters
Made from nitrocellulose and other esters, these filters are used for microbiological analysis of water, wastewater, and beverages.
Petri Dishes and Pads
Polystyrene dishes for culturing microorganisms, available with or without absorbent pads.
Syringe Filters
DISMIC and LABODISC disposable syringe filter units are available in various sizes and membrane types, suitable for filtering different volumes and types of liquids.
Ultra Filtration Units
Designed for concentrating and purifying small volumes of liquids based on molecular weight cut-off.
Glass and Quartz Fiber Filters
Glass fiber filters offer high flow rates and chemical resistance, while quartz fiber filters are suitable for high-temperature applications.
Composite Filters
Hydrophobic with low absorption due to PTFE coating, minimizing the effect of humidity on dust concentration measurements.
Filter Papers and PTFE Depth Filters
Used in air and gas filtration, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and phase separation.
Extraction Thimbles
Available in cellulose, glass fiber, quartz fiber, and PTFE types, suitable for various extraction applications.
Blotting Membranes
Nitrocellulose membranes with high protein/nucleic acid binding capacity, available in different pore sizes.
Vacuum Filter Holders
Available in glass, polysulfone, and stainless steel, suitable for microbiological and particulate analysis.
Filtration Manifolds
Available in PVC and stainless steel, suitable for multiple filtrations.
Pressure Filtration Systems
Allow for higher differential pressures, minimizing protein denaturation and contamination.
Capsule Filters
Designed with polypropylene housings, available in PES, PTFE, polypropylene, and glass microfiber types, suitable for various filtration applications.
Monitors
Disposable filter units for microbiological inspection of gases and liquids.
Test Papers
Available for pH determination, offering an easy and inexpensive method for pH measurement.
Chemical Compatibility Guide

Membrane filters or membranes are micro-porous plastic films with specific pore size ratings. Also known as screen, sieve or microporous filters, membranes retain particles or microorganisms larger than their pore size primarily by surface capture. Some particles smaller than the stated pore size may be retained by other mechanisms. Advantec membranes are produced by three different processes. Mixed Cellulose Ester and Cellulose Acetate are reverse phase solvent cast membranes, where controlled evaporation or removal of the complex solvent system forms the porous structure. Both hydrophilic and...
