Product catalog summary
Overview: The Micro Sample Collector (MSC) is a tool designed for collecting small amounts of liquids or paste-like materials that are challenging to handle with tweezers. It is particularly useful for sampling powdered samples and conducting simple analyses.
Application:
  • Easy Sampling of Powdered Samples: The MSC features a micro coil (0.3 mm outer diameter, 5 mm length) that is retractable into a needle. By lightly touching or rubbing the material with the coil, a sub-milligram sample can be collected. The coil can be used independently for sampling.
  • Simple Analysis: Collected samples can be directly injected into a Gas Chromatograph (GC) if volatile, or placed in a sample cup for pyrolysis if polymeric. Solvent extracts from the coil can be analyzed by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
  • Low Cost and Disposable: The micro coil is disposable but can be reused after cleaning with a solvent, depending on the analytical needs.
Features:
  • Product structure includes a plastic syringe, needle, and deactivated micro coil.
  • Recommended for use with Multi-functional Pyrolyzer and any GC with split/splitless injector.
Specifications:
  • Product No. PY1-1070: Micro Sample Collector kit includes 5 collectors and 20 micro coils.
  • Product No. PY1-1071: Includes 5 Micro Sample Collectors.
  • Product No. PY1-1075: Includes 100 micro coils (5 bottles of 20 each).
The stainless steel micro coil is deactivated with a SiO2 thin film using proprietary technology, ensuring quality despite color variations.
Example Application: A white powder-like material on a cotton handkerchief was collected using the MSC. The coil was retracted into the syringe needle and inserted into a GC injector for analysis. The resulting chromatogram identified thermally desorbed ibuprofen.

Leading the way in material characterization Micro Sample Collector (MSC) The MSC is a very useful tool used to collect a small amount of liquids or paste-like materials that are difficult to pick up using tweezers. ■ Features 1. Easy sampling of powdered samples The tip of the MSC is a micro coil (o.d.=0.3 mm, L=5 mm), which is made of deactivated micro coil and is retractable into the needle. By lightly touching or rubbing the material of interest with the coil, a sub-milligram of sample can be collected. Using tweezers, the micro coil alone can be used for sampling. Micro Sample Collectors The sample collected on the micro coil can be directly injected into GC if the sample is volatile, or the micro coil alone can be placed in a sample cup for pyrolysis if the sample is a polymeric material. Also a solvent extract from the micro coil can be analyzed by HPLC. The MSC is useful for other sample preparations required for your specific analytical purposes. Section stained by grease 3. Low cost and disposable The micro coil is disposable, but depending on analytical purposes it can be reused by cleaning with a solvent. Micro coil Sampling with Micro Sample Collector ■ Application Thermal desorption analysis GC inlet: 330ºC White powder-like material remained on cotton handkerchief was collected by gently touching the surface with the micro coil, followed by retracting the coil into the syringe needle. The MSC needle was then inserted into GC injector for analysis. The chromatogram shown on the left clearly shows the peak for thermally desorbed ibuprofen, a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug.
