Human identification DNAscan™ 6C Rapid DNA Analysis™ System The DNAscan 6C Rapid DNA Analysis System from GE Healthcare and NetBio is a fully automated, ruggedized, rapid short tandem repeat (STR) system with integrated data analysis and Expert System software. The system generates STR profiles using Flexplex™ chemistry, a 27-locus assay compatible with DNA databases around the world. Key features of the DNAscan 6C Rapid DNA Analysis System include: • Rapid DNA analysis: The system (Fig 1) will generate STR profiles from Flexplex chemistry, for up to five samples simultaneously, in less than 90 minutes. An allelic ladder is provided with every run, and an internal lane standard is provided with every sample. • Fully integrated lab-on-a-chip: The instrument automatically performs sample-in to results-out STR processing and analysis. Integrated processing steps include DNA extraction and purification, PCR amplification, electrophoretic separation, and detection of STR markers. The integrated Expert System software processes and analyzes data and generates the STR profile output files. • Ease of use: All reagents are factory preloaded in a disposable “all-in-one” NetBio BioChipSet™ Cassette. The operator simply inserts up to five reference buccal samples into the cassette and inserts the cassette into the instrument—no other operator actions are required to generate and interpret the STR profiles. Cassettes can be stored at room temperature, eliminating the need for freezers and refrigerators. • Sample control: The NetBio BioChipSet Swab seals and locks into the NetBio BioChipSet Cassette to minimize the potential for cross-contamination. Swab samples are identified via built-in RFID tags to provide traceability and minimize the opportunity for sample switches. Each sample also has its own dedicated channel, reducing the risk of cross-contamination. Fig 1. DNAscan 6C Rapid DNA Analysis System. • Minimal maintenance: The self-contained BioChipSet prevents direct contact between the reagents and the instrument. All aspects of sample processing, including waste containment, are performed on the single-use NetBio BioChipSet Cassette. Calibration or routine component replacement is not required, and maintenance cartridges are not necessary for long-term instrument storage. • Data security and privacy: On-board security supports the need to maintain data privacy. Access to data produced by the instrument is password protected, and data is automatically encrypted prior to removal. The accompanying DNAscan Data Management Software supports integration and management of DNAscan data with laboratory and police station workflows.
