Product catalog summary
Introduction
Infusion pumps are critical medical devices used to deliver fluids, nutrients, and medications into a patient's body in controlled amounts. They are prevalent in hospital settings and increasingly used in home care due to their precision and programmability.

Types of Infusion Pumps
There are various types of infusion pumps, including large volume, patient-controlled analgesia (PCA), syringe, enteral, and insulin pumps. Some are stationary, while others, known as ambulatory infusion pumps, are portable or wearable.

Honeywell Solutions for Infusion Pumps
Honeywell provides sensor and switch solutions to enhance the performance and reliability of infusion pumps. These solutions ensure safe and accurate delivery of fluids, medicines, and nutrients.

Key Solutions and Components
  • Force Sensors: Used to monitor fluid delivery and detect blockages. They are non-invasive and require no sterilization.
  • Pressure Sensors - Board Mount: Monitor and control peristaltic pumps, offering high accuracy and reliability.
  • Magnetic Position Sensor ICs: Ensure proper tube placement and motor speed control, reducing noise and vibration.
  • Basic and AML Switches: Serve as on/off controls and detection for covers and panels, providing a fail-safe mechanism.
  • Subminiature Load Cells: Monitor IV bag weight to determine remaining fluid volume.
  • Barcode Scan Engines & Software: Ensure correct treatment administration by reading barcodes on IV bags and patient wristbands.

Product Features
Each component series offers specific features such as amplified outputs, temperature compensation, and compatibility with various media. These features support the integration and functionality of infusion pumps in medical settings.

Warranty and Safety Information
Honeywell provides a warranty against defective materials and workmanship. Users are advised to consult local safety agencies and adhere to installation instructions to prevent serious injury.

SOLUTIONS FOR INFUSION PUMPS Sensors and Switches Application Note Infusion pumps are used to deliver fluids, medicines or nutrients to patients. Fluids and medicines are delivered intravenously directly into the blood stream and nutrients are delivered directly into the stomach. BACKGROUND Infusion pumps are medical devices that deliver fluids, such as nutrients and medications, into a patient’s body in controlled amounts. They are commonly used in hospital intensive care units and wards, but smaller portable infusion pumps are now being used to treat patients at home. Honeywell sensor and switch solutions are designed to enhance the performance and reliability of infusion pumps, monitor the delivery of fluids, medicines and nutrients to the patient and ensure the safe administration of the treatment to the patient (See Figure 1). These devices offer significant advantages over manual administration of fluids, including the ability to deliver fluids in very small volumes, and the ability to deliver fluids at precisely programmed rates or automated intervals. There are many types of infusion pumps, including large volume, patientcontrolled analgesia (PCA), syringe, enteral and insulin pumps. Some are designed mainly for stationary use at a patient’s bedside. Others, called ambulatory infusion pumps, are designed to be portable or wearable.
