MODULAR FALLS MAT - 1

HOSPITAL AIDS Idea l for use on hospital wards and in other care facilities, the modular falls mat is designed to reduce the risk of injury to service users or residents when falling from their bed. Designed by Hospital Aids in conjunction with occupational therapists and commissioned by NHS Innovations. Features • Each mat comes in two 101.5cm x 80cm x 3cm sections that can be interlocked with hook and loop connectors (provided) on the underside. • Tapered Edges on all four sides minimise trip risks. • Indented carry handles on each side of each section. • Manufactured from a high density polyurethane foam which contains an anti-bacterial additive to reduce cleaning and cross infection problems. • Successful testing for impact, slip resistance and flammability. Using the Modular Falls Mat: • Carry the individual units by using one of the indented handles, which are situated on the underside of the MFM. • When joining the MFM units together ensure that the Velcro joining straps (underneath) are securely fastened. • Ensure that there is no gap between the bed frame and the MFM. • Where possible, wedge the MFM against the wheels/legs of the bed to help keep the mat in position. Once in place, the weight of the attached units should mean that there is little movement on most types of floor surface. The sloping sides of the MFM reduce the possibility of trips. • Consider covering floor at foot and head of bed as well as the side/s, where appropriate.
