SurgiMend® Hernia Brochure

Product catalog summary
Overview: The document provides detailed information on SurgiMend®, a collagen matrix used for hernia repair. It highlights the product's strength, integration, revascularization, and clinical data supporting its efficacy.
Specifications: SurgiMend is an acellular dermal tissue matrix derived from bovine dermis, available in thicknesses of 1mm to 4mm. It is designed to reinforce soft tissue where weakness exists and is indicated for various types of hernia repairs and reconstructive surgeries.
Strength and Durability: SurgiMend demonstrates high tensile strength and tear resistance, attributed to its bovine dermal source. It is shown to be as strong as stainless steel sutures and more resistant to tearing than porcine dermal matrices.
Integration and Revascularization: The product supports rapid revascularization, aiding tissue building and healing. It does not trigger a detrimental foreign-body inflammatory response, ensuring prolonged reinforcement.
Clinical Data: Studies report low hernia recurrence rates with SurgiMend reinforcement. It maintains hernia reinforcement strength and supports the persistence of well-vascularized connective tissue.
Source and Processing: SurgiMend is made from fetal or neonatal bovine dermis using a patented process that removes inflammatory constituents while preserving collagen properties. It is sterilized with ethylene oxide gas.
Product Options: Available in over 65 sizes and configurations, SurgiMend offers flexibility for surgeons to choose the appropriate thickness and size for each procedure.
Warnings and Precautions: The product should not be used in patients with collagen or bovine product hypersensitivity. It requires careful consideration of the loading environment and should be used cautiously in areas with potential exposure to digestive enzymes.
Contraindications: Not intended for use outside its specified indications and should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to its components.

STRONG CLINICAL DATA Numerous retrospective clinical studies have reported on hernia repair outcomes with SurgiMend reinforcement. Low hernia recurrence was shown with the use of SurgiMend. A complex abdominal wall reconstruction study by MD Anderson found a 0% vs 10% intraoperative device failure rate when comparing SurgiMend acellular dermal matrix to a porcine acellular dermal matrix.8
