The transcription module has a new clean and fresh look with a few added features. As usual, there is a gloss, target and transcription line. Multiple versions of the transcription module may be active at the same time allowing the user to work and compare multiple documents simultaneously. Transcription Window: Bright and colorful displays make transcription easy with main symbols shown in blue and diacritics in red. Standard Windows menus make learning LIPP easier than ever before. Other buttons for [Play], [Select] and [Spec.Ana.] (Spectral Analysis) allow you to select a wave file for each transcription line, play and perform spectral analysis. Multimedia and Spectral Analysis Options: LIPP is distributed with a powerful shareware spectral analysis program and can be linked to almost any other spectral analysis program of your choice. Spectral analysis programs allows you to play, cut and paste speech samples. Spectral plots are extremely helpful during transcription and are a great teaching tool. Any spectral analysis program that uses IBM Windows wave file formats as input may be linked to the LIPP transcription module. When selected, LIPP will automatically launch the spectral analysis program and will provide that application the name of the file to be analyzed. The new multimedia features of LIPP make it a great teaching tool. You can record your own examples using any IBM compatible computer equipped with a soundboard, microphone and speakers. After saving the files in a “wave” format, the files can be linked to each transcription line as well as to the character menus. During transcription, you can play back the segment with a click of a button.

Character Menus with option for examples: As in the previous versions of LIPP, the characters menus may be edited and reorganized for any application. Character Menus display actual IPA character symbols. All menus may be edited and wave file examples linked to each line. When the [Example] button is pressed, LIPP will play the file linked to that particular menu item. Dictionary: A full dictionary allows for easy and convenient data entry and transcription.
