Surgical Technique Medial SMO Plate / Wedge Block 1. Approach Insert a K-wire for osteotomy. Make sure the K-wire is inserted in the safe zone of the syndesmosis. Medial SMO Plate / Wedge Block Use the spreader to open the osteotomy gap for the anatomical alignment. 4. Metal Wedge Block Insertion Insert a wedge block in the osteotomy gap where it seats on near cortical line. The wedge block sizes are available from 5 mm to 15 mm. 5. Plate Assembly and Positioning The SMO plate can be assembled to the metal wedge block by the oblong hole. Surgical Technique Use the drill guide or the drill sleeve for the drilling. Use the depth gauge to select the length of the screw. The screws are inserted at the distal end first. Insert the bone graft in the gap and place the anterior SMP Plate. Autograft is preferred when selecting the bone graft. Use the guide pins to fix the plate temporarily. Use the drill guide or the drill sleeve for the accurate drilling. Variable angle can be applied by using variable angle drill sleeve. Use the depth gauge to measure and select the appropriate screw for the insertion.
