Vapor Wand Anesthesia for Your Wildest, Most Challenging Patients Veterinarians often treat ferocious or vicious animals such as: Aggressive Cats and Dogs Small Wildlife Small Primates Small Zoo Animals Reptiles Exotic Species of Pets For proper examination or surgery, these animals need to be anesthesized. Older methods such as pole syringes and darts are high risk to both the animal and the veterinarian. Anesthesia chambers have size limitations, and transferring the patient safely into chambers can be risky Threaded End Plug + 1/4 Hose Barb The development of anesthetic agents such as isoflurane can make induction faster, quieter, and safer. David S. Hodgson DVM, DACVA at Kansas State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, developed the innovative Vapor Wand to deliver anesthetic vapors into enclosed cages and pet carriers. Luer Adaptor Enclosed Full Length Cotton Wick g Plug with Injection Hole The Vapor Wand is a small round stainless ventVapor Wand ed probe with a cotton wick. It is attached to a 400ml air pump. When a pre-measured dose of liquid isoflurane is added to the wick, and the air pump is cycled, the liquid isoflurane is vaporized. Any animal may be quickly anesthesized by use of the Vapor Wand inserted into the sealed environment. The example shown is a transport kennel placed in a plastic bag. The Vapor Wand is inserted into the kennel and the air pump is cycled. The round viewing window allows for observation of the animal during induction of anesthesia. When induction is complete, the bag is opened.
