KONE MONOSPACE® 500

KONE MONOSPACE® 500

Product catalog summary
Overview: The KONE Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) provides verified information on the environmental performance of KONE products, specifically focusing on the KONE MonoSpace® 500 elevator. The EPD is based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data, adhering to ISO 14040 and 14025 standards, and was conducted in collaboration with VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.
Product Specifications: The KONE MonoSpace® 500 is designed for residential use, with a load range of 320–1,000 kg, speed range of 0.63–1.6 m/s, and a travel range of up to 55 meters across up to 16 floors.
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA): The LCA evaluates environmental impacts across the product's life cycle, including material production, component manufacturing, delivery, use, maintenance, and end-of-life treatment. The use stage, primarily due to electricity consumption, accounts for the majority of environmental impacts, including 82% of total primary energy consumption and significant emissions of CO2, NOX, and SOX.
Environmental Impact Distribution: Using the Eco-Indicator 99 method, the environmental impacts are distributed as follows: Material production (26.2%), Component manufacturing (14.3%), Delivery (1.9%), Use (56.2%), Maintenance (1.2%), and End-of-life treatment (0.3%).
Material Composition and Recycling: The elevator is primarily composed of steel and cast iron, with a high recycling rate of 93% for metals. The product avoids hazardous materials like asbestos and CFCs. At the end of its life, 55% of the material weight can be reused without pre-processing.
Key Environmental Metrics: Over its life cycle, the elevator consumes 369,852 MJ of primary energy and emits 12,325.8 kg of CO2. The LCA also assesses impacts in categories such as global warming, eutrophication, photochemical oxidation, and acidification.
Glossary: The document includes definitions for terms like Global Warming Potential (GWP100), Eutrophication Potential, and Photochemical Oxidation, providing clarity on the environmental impact categories assessed.

Environmental product declaration KONE Environmental Product Declarations, or EPDs, provide independently verified information about the environmental performance of our products. EPDs are based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data from studies carried out in compliance with the ISO 14040 standard. This EPD lists all the components and environmental impacts of a representative sampling of our products throughout their life cycles, including energy and material consumption, waste generation, and emissions. This EPD is a self-declaration developed in compliance with the ISO 14025 standard for Product SelfDeclarations. The Life Cycle Assessment on which this EPD is based was jointly conducted by KONE and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. Product reviewed in this document Elevator type KONE MonoSpace® elevator Load range Speed range Travel range KONE Corporation The results of this EPD are applicable to a typical elevator, based on the KONE MonoSpace ®, installed in a residential building.

Life Cycle Assessment Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a tool for assessing the environmental impacts associated with a product, process, or service throughout its life cycle. The LCA includes Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) analysis that involves creating an inventory of flows to and from the environment as well as Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA), where the significance of potential environmental impacts based on the LCI flow results is evaluated. The LCA covers the most important environmental aspects related to raw material production, component manufacturing, delivery, installation, use, maintenance,...

Product material content Product recycling description The KONE MonoSpace® elevator is mainly composed of steel and cast iron. The product does not contain asbestos, paints containing lead or cadmium pigments, capacitors containing PCBs or PCTs, ozone layer-depleting chemicals such as CFCs, or chlorinated solvents. Mercury is not used in applications other than lighting. Cadmium stabilisers are not used in plastics. At the end of its operational life, the elevator is dismantled and about 55% of the material weight (some steel and cast iron components) can be sorted and reused without pre-processing....
