RadWatch Dosimeter

Product catalog summary
Introduction
LANDAUER has developed the RadWatch dosimeter and RadLight reader, designed for tactical radiation monitoring in field conditions. These devices are engineered to withstand extreme environments, making them suitable for use by firefighters and emergency responders.

Specifications
The RadWatch dosimeter employs optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) technology for accurate radiation monitoring. It features a primary and secondary detector for redundancy, and a built-in RFID chip for storing calibration data and dose results. The dosimeter measures whole-body doses from photons and neutrons and is designed to be worn on the wrist or chest.

Operating Principles
The dosimeter uses three Al2O3:C OSL discs, each with a specific filter assembly to assess photon energy and doses from photons and neutrons. The RadLight reader processes dosimeters by positioning them for analysis and displaying results on an integrated screen.

Performance Specifications
The RadWatch measures gamma and x-rays above 50 keV and neutrons above 0.5 MeV. It has a detection range for photons from 0.005 cGy to 3,000 cGy and for neutrons from 0.3 cGy to 3,000 cGy.

Environmental Durability
The dosimeters and readers are resistant to extreme temperatures, sand, chemicals, pressure, and humidity. They are maintenance-free and lightweight, with no warm-up time required for the RadLight reader.

RadLight Reader
The portable RadLight reader weighs five pounds and operates on four AA batteries for up to 21.5 hours. It processes approximately 144 dosimeters per hour and is made from high-impact plastic resistant to environmental damage.

OSL Benefits
OSL technology allows for non-destructive readouts, enabling multiple readings without accuracy loss. The dosimeters can be worn for extended periods without signal degradation, reducing administrative tasks.

Conclusion
LANDAUER's RadWatch and RadLight provide reliable, accurate radiation monitoring solutions for field conditions, backed by a trusted reputation and proven technology.

RadWatch Dosimeter-3

Operating Principles RadWatch assesses the absorbed dose to tissue (cGy) from neutrons and photons utilizing a primary detector comprised of three Al2O3:C OSL discs of crystalline powder coated on a clear plastic film. Each disc in the sensor is enveloped by a specific filter assembly: • Filter 1 indicates photon energy • Filter 2 assesses doses due to photons • Filter 3 assesses doses due to neutrons The three filter assemblies are contained in a slide on the watch base, protected by the watch cover until inserted into the RadLight Reader, which automatically positions the slide over the photo-optical...

RadWatch Dosimeter-4

• Push-button start powers on the unit, initiating a startup protocol that correctly positions the slide puller. • Visual cues ensure proper orientation when watch is placed in the drawer. • When drawer is pushed in, reader automatically removes the slide from the watch base and positions each sensor to be read. • Integrated screen displays key identification information, along with the total radiation dose and analytical results (photon and neutron dose), which are also written to the RadWatch RFID chip. The portable RadLight reader weighs five pounds with batteries and is made out of high-impact...

RadWatch Dosimeter-5

OSL Benefits Landauer’s proprietary aluminum oxide Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) technology offers many key advantages to those using the RadWatch in field conditions. The technology is designed to withstand the most severe conditions and maintain its integrity in any environment. The RadWatch dosimeter can be re-read numerous times while maintaining total cumulative dose, which saves both time and resources. There is also no risk of fade, allowing the dosimeters to be worn for longer periods of time while maintaining accuracy and efficiency. BENEFITS ADVANTAGE Non-destructive readout...
