Calibration of Gas Chromatograph (GC)

Calibration of Gas Chromatograph (GC)

Calibration of Gas Chromatograph (GC)

Product catalog summary
Project Overview
The project, in collaboration with Sotacarbo S.p.a., focuses on the production of methanol and dimethyl ether (DME) from CO2. It involves catalyst synthesis, characterization, and performance evaluation. The department responsible is Process Analysis and CCU, led by Dr. Mauro Mureddu, a senior scientist with expertise in carbon capture and utilization.

Role of MCQ Instruments
MCQ Instruments plays a crucial role by providing a solution for calibrating gas chromatographs (GC) using a pure gas cylinder of DME mixed with an inert gas (N2). This method offers significant time savings and efficiency compared to traditional calibration methods that require multiple gas cylinders.

Calibration and Gas Mixing
The MCQ GB4000 Series allows for easy calibration across a wide flow range (1 ml/min to 5000 ml/min) without cut-off, offering stable and reliable gas flow. The software automation feature enables Sotacarbo to conduct experiments seamlessly, enhancing productivity.

Benefits and Innovations
The use of MCQ instruments provides dual advantages: achieving reliable calibration curves with pure gases and feeding the bench-scale plant with various gas compositions. This approach reduces the need for multiple gas cylinders and addresses the challenges of obtaining DME in different concentrations.

Research and Development
The project aims to develop advanced catalysts for CO2 conversion to methanol and DME. The catalysts are subject to a Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) application, highlighting their innovative potential. The catalytic activity is tested under realistic conditions using a high-pressure reactor and monitored with an online gas chromatograph.

Conclusion
This collaboration with Sotacarbo demonstrates a significant advancement in CO2 utilization technologies, contributing to sustainable energy solutions and addressing climate change challenges.
