DESCRIPTION OF THE APPLICATION AND THE TARGET Nonreplicating and metabolically quiescent bacteria are implicated in latent tuberculosis infections and relapses following ‘‘sterilizing’’ chemotherapy. However, evidence linking bacterial dormancy and persistence in vivo is largely inconclusive.
