Product catalog summary
Product Overview
Medizym® anti-GAD M is an ELISA test designed for the quantitative determination of antibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD65) in human serum. It serves as a serological marker for autoimmune diabetes mellitus type 1, offering high diagnostic efficiency with excellent sensitivity and specificity. The test is automatable and uses recombinant human GAD65 for high specificity.
Diabetes Mellitus Type 1
Type 1 diabetes is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by the destruction of insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas, leading to high blood sugar levels. Genetic predispositions and viral infections are risk factors, though the exact causes remain unclear. Islet cell antibodies (ICA), including those against GAD65, are present in 70-80% of patients and serve as prognostic markers for the disease.
Antibodies Against GAD65
GAD65 is an enzyme involved in synthesizing the neurotransmitter GABA. Antibodies against GAD65 are common in patients with type 1 diabetes and those in the prediabetic phase. These antibodies are crucial for diagnosing diabetes mellitus type 1.
Technical Specifications
The Medizym® anti-GAD M assay uses recombinant human GAD65 and is calibrated with the international standard NIBSC code 97/550. Results are expressed in IU/mL. The test demonstrates high precision, with intraassay and interassay variations detailed in the document.
Diagnostic Performance
The test shows a sensitivity of 98.4% and a specificity of 95.3%, based on the analysis of pretested samples from patients suspected of having diabetes mellitus type 1 and unselected blood donors.

  • Ready-to-use reagents, except for the wash buffer
  • Color- and barcoded reagents for ease of use
  • Room temperature incubation
