Key surgical steps Perform a 1 cm incision in proximity of the metaphysis of the second metacarpal along the dorsal-radial margin, lateral to extensor tendon. Using the drill guide, insert two screws with 2.5 thread at approximately a 45-degree angle of the horizontal plane in the metacarpal. Use a power tool to go past the first cortex and then proceed by using the T handle. Perform a 1 cm incision in the radius at an adequate distance from the fracture. Perform the reduction. Using the 3 mm wrench block the ball joint and secure the proximal clamp. In case the proximal clamp is very close to the end of the body of the external fixator, it is advised to use the extension rod that is available as an accessory. Make sure all the clamps have been tightened securely by using the 5000625 wrench. If the fracture pattern requires it, it is possible to attach an arch to the fixator and position additional screws and k-wires in the bone.
