Product catalog summary
Overview of the Simulator
The Life/form® Arterial Puncture Arm Simulator is a training tool designed for practicing arterial injections and drawing arterial blood samples. It features realistic radial and brachial arterial puncture sites with pulsation.
Components
The simulator includes a Life/form® Skin and Artery Kit, two 3 cc syringes with needles, an IV supply bag, two replacement artery sections, and a pint of Life/form® Arterial Blood.
General Instructions for Use
  • Prepare synthetic arterial blood by diluting the provided colorant with water.
  • Fill the IV supply bag with the diluted blood and hang it at an 18-inch height to minimize leakage.
  • Connect the IV bag to the arm using the supplied connector, ensuring the flow control clamp is closed.
Skin and Artery Replacement
  • Remove used skin and arterial tubing carefully, lubricating the exterior with baby powder.
  • Install new arterial tubing by securing it over connectors and placing a foam pad over the tubing at the antecubital fossa.
  • Install replacement skin by sliding it over the core, ensuring proper alignment and avoiding excessive pulling.
Care and Maintenance
  • Use 22-gauge or smaller needles to minimize damage.
  • Distribute punctures along the injection sites to prolong the product's life.
  • Use only water or Life/form® Arterial Blood in the IV system to prevent blockages.
  • Clean the simulator with mild detergent and water, avoiding alcohol or iodine which can stain the skin.
  • Store the simulator properly by draining and rinsing the IV bag and tubing, and placing the arm in its carrying case.
Repair and Maintenance
Replacement latex tubing sections are provided for renewing the arterial system. Tubing sealant is included to reduce leakage, and regular application is recommended.
Procedures
  • Radial Arterial Puncture: The artery is superficial and easily palpated. Confirmation is done by checking the color and pulsing in the syringe.
  • Brachial Arterial Puncture: The artery is approximately 1.5 cm below the surface. Aim the needle at the strongest pulsation for successful penetration.
Filling the Arterial System
Follow the steps to fill the system with blood, ensuring no air bubbles remain, and create a realistic pulse using the squeeze bulb.
Maintenance and Cautions
  • Avoid solvents or corrosive materials to prevent damage.
  • Do not place the simulator on printed paper or plastic to avoid stains.
  • Ball-point pens can cause indelible stains.
Available Supplies/Replacement Parts
Includes cleaner, skin replacement kit, tubing sealant, arterial blood, and lubricant kit.

The document lists various other simulators available from Nasco, covering a wide range of medical training needs.
