Product catalog summary
Introduction to Navigated Brain Stimulation (NBS):
Navigated Brain Stimulation (NBS) is a non-invasive technique used in neurosurgery to map the brain's motor functions. It utilizes transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to create a 3D rendering of the patient's brain, aiding in surgical planning, especially for brain tumors near critical areas.

Key Features of NBS:
  • Non-invasive Mapping: NBS provides direct cortical stimulation without the need for craniotomy, offering a safer alternative to traditional methods.
  • Integration with MRI: The system overlays functional data onto MRI images, enhancing the detail and accuracy of brain maps.
  • Regulatory Approval: NBS is the only non-invasive cortical mapping device with clearance for pre-procedural planning in Europe and the USA.

Benefits of NBS:
  • Improves surgical outcomes by reducing the risk of motor deficits post-operation.
  • Facilitates better patient communication and decision-making.
  • Reduces the need for reoperations and allows more patients to be considered for surgery.

Nexstim NBS System:
  • Components: Includes a mobile cart with integrated E-field navigation, TMS stimulation, and EMG recording.
  • Setup and Operation: The system is designed for single-operator use with a setup time of less than 5 minutes.
  • Data Export: Mapping results can be exported in DICOM format for integration into surgical planning systems.

Technical Specifications:
  • Stimulation: The system uses a figure-of-8 coil for precise E-field targeting, with adjustable output intensity.
  • EMG Monitoring: Features a 6-channel EMG amplifier with artifact rejection and automatic MEP calculation.
  • Compatibility: Supports DICOM data export and integrates with various imaging modalities like fMRI and PET.

Applications:
  • Used in motor mapping for tumor and epilepsy surgery, stroke recovery, and research on motor plasticity and pain management.

Certification and Compliance:
  • The system is ISO 13485 certified, CE-marked, and FDA 510(k) cleared, ensuring compliance with safety and performance standards.

Noninvasive, direct cortical mapping Neurosurgery starts with planning. Direct cortical stimulation of the cortex following craniotomy has been the “gold standard” for motor mapping, but invasiveness severely limits options for planning or discussing treatment options with patients. Navigated Brain Stimulation (NBS) is a revolutionary technique which is intuitive and accurate, yet noninvasive. NBS is the beginning of a change in the paradigm of neurosurgery. Neurosurgery starts here. Plan with confidence In surgical treatment for brain tumors, there is increasing evidence that an aggressive resection...

Upload a standard MRI and the NBS System computes a detailed 3D rendering of the head and intracranial structures. Peeling layer-by-layer you can view the brain at any desired intracranial depth. Overlay fMRI, DTI or PET data on the 3D rendering for a complete picture. Place surface electrodes over the desired muscles. The 6-channel EMG module automatically calculates and records all MEP amplitudes and latencies. Export images in DICOM to planning systems or direct to the neuronavigator. In the OR, NBS cortical maps help optimal placement of DCS electrodes and facilitate surgical guidance. With...
