The Vacuderm smart tourniquet is a single patient tourniquet, when the dome is pumped several times, it enhances the tourniquet effect by producing a negative pressure. This causes the veins to fill and become pronounced, potentially improving vein location. We recommend targeting nurses and junior doctors for cannulation and drug delivery procedures first in Oncology, Cancer, A&E departments, also try CT and MRI and Endoscopy departments, then departments for blood collection. You must demonstrate the Vacuderm to nurses before leaving it with them. Practice on your colleagues beforehand to ensure...

Opfimising venous access Can the Vacuderm be used with a Vein Finder? Yes, very well. The Vein finder shows where the vein is whilst the Vacuderm enlarges the vein ready for cannulation. How can we tell the Vacuderm is working? Simply run your finger along the vein, by pumping the dome slowly you will feel the vein enlarge. Once the vein feels 'bouncy', cannulation can proceed. How quickly should I pump the vein? At least one second between pumps. How many times should I pump the dome? Pump at least 10-15 times, slowly, to optimise vein distension, more if required. Olberon’s Solution EASIER TARGET - USING VACUUM TO FILL THE VEIN 2 Ensure the hand/arrow V section is pointing towards the patient’s hand to allow for accurate alignment to the vein, and effective pumping/filling of the vein. 3 Using two hands, thread the strap through the buckle and stretch, ensuring the tourniquet is pulled as tightly as it will allow, to give the required tourniquet result. The strap should be hooked back onto itself to give a more secure placement and additional tightening. For a video presentation please visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yX9kzxc73R8
