Product catalog summary
Desktop Performance in a Rugged Enclosure
The EmStat4R is a portable, USB-powered, and wireless potentiostat, galvanostat, and optional frequency response analyzer (FRA) designed for electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). It is suitable for sensor applications requiring low currents, from 30 mA down to picoamps. The device features an exchangeable connection module for screen printed electrodes (SPE), allowing for a cable-less field solution.
Supported Techniques
The EmStat4R supports various electrochemical techniques including Linear Sweep Voltammetry (LSV), Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), Differential Pulse Voltammetry (DPV), and more. Some techniques will be enabled with the release of PSTrace 5.10. MethodSCRIPT™ allows for developing custom techniques.
Measurement Specifications
Parameters for techniques include conditioning, deposition, and equilibration times (0-4000 s), step potential (0.100 mV to 250 mV), and scan rates for various voltammetry methods. The device supports up to 1,000,000 data points.
System Specifications
The EmStat4R features a potential range of ±3 V, compliance voltage of ±5 V, and maximum current of ±30 mA. It offers a maximum data acquisition rate of 1M samples/s. The potentiostat and galvanostat modes have specific resolution and accuracy parameters, with bandwidth settings up to 570 kHz. The FRA/EIS frequency range is 10 µHz to 200 kHz.
EmStat4R EIS Accuracy Contour Plot
Accuracy contour plots are determined with specific ac-amplitude settings. The true limits of impedance measurement are influenced by system components and environment.
Standard EmStat4R Kit
The kit includes the EmStat4R instrument, USB-C cable, cell cable, dummy cell, PSTrace software, manual, quick start document, and calibration report. Optional connection modules are available.
PSTrace: Software for Windows
PSTrace offers Scientific, Corrosion, and Analytical modes for various analyses. It features an intuitive script editor and supports data export to Excel, Origin, and Matlab.
PStouch: App for Android
PStouch allows for setting up and running measurements on Android devices, with features for data analysis and sharing. It requires USB OTG support for device connectivity.
Software Development Kits for .NET
PalmSens offers free SDKs for .NET, including WinForms, Xamarin, and WPF, with examples for connecting, running measurements, and data analysis.
EmStat4R and MethodSCRIPT™
MethodSCRIPT™ provides full control over the potentiostat, supporting variables, loops, conditional logic, and more. It is parsed on-board, requiring no external libraries.

Note The accuracy contour plots were determined with an ac-amplitude of ≤10 mV rms for all limits, except for the high impedance limit, which was determined using an ac-amplitude of 250 mV. The standard 1 meter cell cables were used. Please note that the true limits of an impedance measurement are influenced by all components in the system, e.g. connections, the environment, and the cell.
