Barnes maze

Product catalog summary
Product Overview
The LF1201C is a platform designed for video-tracking systems, made from non-reflective Perspex material. It features a rotating platform, a goal box with a ramp, and includes a starting cylinder. The platform does not retain odors, making it suitable for various applications.

Key Features
This product is used in research related to learning and memory, particularly in the context of memory impairments, neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's, drug screening, and phenotyping.

Applications
The Barnes maze is a widely used test for assessing spatial learning and memory in rodents, specifically mice and rats. It provides a stress-free alternative to other tests like the Radial maze and Watermaze, as it does not require dietary restrictions or swimming.

Ordering Information
Panlab offers various models of the Barnes maze for both mice and rats, with different color options and configurations. The basic models include one or two floor colors, a rotating floor, a fixed goal box, and a starting cylinder. The full/advanced models offer three floor colors, a rotating floor, a starting cylinder, a goal box, and additional false boxes for more complex memory tasks.

Specifications
  • Platform: Made of Perspex, with a diameter of 92 cm for mice and 122 cm for rats, and a height of 90-100 cm.
  • Platform Color: Various color combinations are available depending on the model.
  • Holes: 20 holes with a diameter of 5 cm for mice, and 18 holes with a diameter of 10 cm for rats.
  • Goal Box: Dimensions for mice are 17.5 x 7.5 x 8 cm, and for rats are 27 x 11.4 x 13 cm.
  • Starting Cylinder: Dimensions for mice are 8 cm in diameter and 12.5 cm in height, and for rats are 30 cm in diameter and 25 cm in height.

Additional Information
The Barnes maze can be automated for behavioral analysis using the SMART video-tracking system provided by Panlab.

Barnes maze-1

Barnes maze for evaluating spatial learning and memory in rodents Goal Box Barnes Maze Starting cylinder • Platform made with non reflective perplex material for video-tracking systems Do not retain odours • • Rotating platform • Goal box with ramp • Starting cylinder included The Barnes maze is a popular test for assessing spatial learning and memory in rats and mice. To begin the test the animal is placed on top of the Barnes maze platform, a brightly lit environment consisting of fixed number of holes around its periphery. In such an open environment, rodents naturally seek a dark enclosed surrounding, which is provided in the form of a dark box (goal box) under one of the round holes around the perimeter of the platform. The amount of time required for the animal to locate the goal box using visuo-spatial cues surrounding the maze periphery is measured by the researcher. Unlike the Radial maze and Watermaze test the Barnes maze does not require dietary restrictions or swimming stress, making it a useful alternative for behaviorally phenotyping genetically modified mice and rats. Panlab provides different models of Barnes mazes for rat and mouse, with different floor color and goal/false box options: SPECIFICATIONS Platform All models for mouse: Perspex platform; 92 (Diam.) cm, 90-100 (H) cm.
