Tilt Frame Keyhole Plates Slings

Product catalog summary
Introduction
Pelican Manufacturing Pty Ltd, an Australian Standards Quality Endorsed Company, provides information on Tilt Frame/Keyhole Plate Hoists. The document discusses the lifespan of slings, materials used, and compatibility with different hoists.

Sling Lifespan
Different manufacturers offer varying lifespans for slings, ranging from one to eight years. Pelican Manufacturing does not specify a lifespan due to varying usage conditions. Safety straps are included to prevent accidents if the clip fails.

Material of Keyhole Plates
Keyhole Plates are made from strong plastic to avoid damage to washing machines, unlike metal plates which could cause damage. Over time, plastic plates wear down, which is preferable to metal components wearing out.

Importance of 'Click' Sound
A distinct 'click' sound when attaching Keyhole Plates is crucial for safety. Pelican's Safety Straps offer additional security if a Keyhole Plate fails.

Fitting Issues
Occasionally, Keyhole Plates may be too tight due to variations in metal lug sizes. Adjustments can be made using a nail file to ensure a proper fit.

Use of Non-Hoist Manufacturers’ Slings
All slings in Australia should comply with AS ISO 10535-2002 standards. Pelican conducts additional weight testing and provides product liability insurance. Claims that only specific slings can be used with certain hoists may be misleading.

Conclusion
Pelican Manufacturing has been supplying slings to various healthcare facilities for over 25 years, ensuring compliance with Australian standards and providing reliable safety features.

Tilt Frame Keyhole Plates Slings-1

5 Ruse Street Osborne Park Western Australia 6017 Proudly working to AS/NZS ISO 9001:2008, An Australian Standards Quality Endorsed Company, Reg QEC 5255 Information on Tilt-Frame/Keyhole Plate Hoist 24/11/14 Tilt Frame Keyhole Plate Information Different manufacturers of Tilt Frame Hoists give different life spans for their slings. In 2006 we researched different manufacturers and found one firm stated two years from date of manufacture. Another stated their slings had a life expectancy of between 5 and 8 years. And a third firm stated ‘Even if no wear or tear is noticed we recommend that the sling is replaced at least every twelve months’. In 2013 another firm stated a 5 year warranty on their slings. Since then we have found more large Manufacturers are starting a limited life expectancy for their Slings. Pelican Manufacturing Pty Ltd makes Slings to the Australian and International Standards and understand that a new sling may only be used for a few months until the patient dies. The Sling may then be kept in storage for many years until a similar patient need the same size sling. Therefore we do not state a lifespan for the Pelican Slings. The Keyhole Plate lug tips may wear down and become a loose fit, but as Pelican include Safety Straps with their slings, if the Clip fails the Safety Straps may prevent a dangerous accident. The number of times the sling is used and washed can affect the life expectancy, but even a new sling can be damaged the first time it is washed. Why are all Keyhole Plates made from a Plastic Material and not Metal? The plastic used in the Keyhole Plates is extremely strong and they will go in a washing machine without causing any damage to the inside of the machine. If an aluminium or other metal Keyhole Plate was used, then the metal lugs would not fit over the stud bar. Metal Keyhole Plates would damage the inside of a washing machine. Remember that after a while in normal use, the plastic Keyhole Plate material will wear down and the ‘click’ will disappear, so you do not want to file them too much. All ‘plastic’ type Keyhole Plates from all manufactures will also wear down after a while, so the Keyhole Plate will become a loose fit anyway. No matter what brand of sling Keyhole Plate you have, the plastic wears down when rubbing on the metal stud lug. If the plastic Keyhole Plate did not wear down, then the metal of the stud lug would wear down and the Hoist would then need replacing. An important thing with these slings and hoists is that there is a good click sound when attaching the Keyhole Plates. There have been many accidents with different manufacturers around the world with these types of Slings where the Keyhole Plate becomes so worn that they lose their click and become a loose fit. The Pelican Safety Straps provide a ‘second chance’ if a Keyhole Plate comes off the Stud or breaks, as the Straps can prevent a serious accident. Sometimes if one Keyhole breaks, this can put extra weight on the other three Keyhole Plates.
