- In surgery & medicine, devices are used to create suction to enable the removal of: • Blood • Fluids • Small bone fragments • Other tissue - Suction devices are connected to a suction source such as wall pipe vacuum or a powered unit. - Suction is also performed during procedures in general surgery, orthopaedics, liposuction, neurosurgery, endoscopy, uterine aspiration, airway management, etc.

Most Common Surgical Suction Procedures Operating Room • Removal of Fluids/General Surgery: Removal of blood from an area being operated on to allow surgeons to view and work on the area, or to remove blood that has built up as a result of a haemorrhage. • Removal of Small Bone Fragments during Orthopaedic Surgery: Mainly during procedures such as hip and knee replacements. • For Uterine Aspiration: Aspiration to remove uterine contents through the cervix. It may be used as a method of induced abortion, a therapeutic procedure used after miscarriage, or a procedure to obtain a sample for...

Suction Connecting Tubing: Connectors ‘F’ Female Connector fits suction machines and male tapered connections for instrumentation. ‘M’ Male Connector push fits into the ‘F’ connector and is normally used to connect to the standard funnel fitted on suction catheters. Can also be used to connect lengths of tubing together to create longer lengths. ‘M/VC’ Application of ‘M’ Connector with VC (Vacuum Control) vent converts a standard catheter to vacuum control application.
