Description: eXsorb® Ag is primary wound dressings made of blend of superabsorbent acrylic fibers and viscose fibers, thermally laminated to a antimicrobial silver containing low adherent PE net. The dressing absorbs and interacts with wound exudates to form a soft, hydrophilic, gas-permeable gel that provides a moist environment that is believed to facilitate healing. Mechanism of action: The silver ions of silver pad are non-migratory. When silver pad was tested for zone of inhibition, there were no inhibitions of growth around the sample but only under the sample. This means that silver ions do not leach from the pad and act only at the pad surface when they come in contact with microorganisms. Once wound fluid come in contact with the silver net, the silver is activated, and acts on the microbial cell by the following mechanisms: 1- Damage to bacterial cell membrane, could lead to the leakage of cytoplasm from the cell, which would result in dehydrated and shrunken cells. 2- Silver atoms bind to thiol groups (-SH) in enzymes, and subsequently, cause the deactivation of enzymes. 3- Silver associates with DNAonce they enter the cell, thus preventing bacte- „ rial cell replication. of dnastrands 1- Prophylaxis against infection especially for wounds at high risk of infection. 2- The pad acts as antimicrobial barrier due to the presence of Silver PE net to prevent colonization on the dressing. 3- Can absorb and trap up to 20 times its weight of saline solution.. 4- The pad can quickly absorb wound exudates and form a gel. Exudates are locked inside the dressing away from wound and surrounding skin; this prevents maceration and retains a humid surface environment to facilitate wound healing. 5- The pad can keep the absorbed exudates even under compression. 6- The high absorbency allows for fewer dressing changes, leaving the fragile wound bed relatively undisturbed. 7- Soft fluffy conformable wound pad providing cushioning effect. 8-Atraumatic and painless dressing removal. 9- The presence of non-adherent wound contact layer allows fast, controlled absorbency of light exudates. 5- The pad can keep the absorbed exudates even under compression. 6- The high absorbency allows for fewer dressing changes, leaving the fragile wound bed relatively undisturbed. 7- Soft fluffy conformable wound pad providing cushioning effect. 8-Atraumatic and painless dressing removal. 9- The presence of PE net as a wound contact layer allows fast, controlled absorbency of light exudates.

Contraindications: • Do not use on patients with a known allergy to any of the dressing’s components. • Do not use on dry or necrotic tissues. • Experience is limited with newly born, infants and during pregnancy. Frequency of change: It depends on the state of the wound. In case of slough or heavily exuding wounds, the dressing should be changed daily.
