Product catalog summary
Introduction
The TONO-PEN AVIA VET™ is a veterinary tonometer specifically designed for measuring intraocular pressure (IOP) in animals. It is intended for use by trained veterinary professionals and is not approved for human use.
Warnings and Cautions
To ensure safe and accurate use, the device must be used with an OCU-FILM® tip cover to prevent inaccurate readings and potential corneal abrasions. Users should avoid applying excessive pressure and ensure the device is not modified without authorization. The device should be handled carefully to avoid damage and should not be exposed to high temperatures or electromagnetic interference.
General Overview
The device includes a sensor tip, transducer assembly, LCD display, LED indicator, power supply, and activation button. It operates in several modes: Power Up, Applanation, Verification, and Sleep Mode.
Device Modes
Power Up Mode: Initiates self-tests and prepares the device for use.
Applanation Mode: Allows for IOP measurement within a 15-second window.
Verification Mode: Ensures the device is functioning correctly.
Sleep Mode: Activates after 25 seconds of inactivity to save power.
Verification Procedure
If suspect readings occur, a verification procedure should be conducted by holding the device in specific orientations and listening for audio cues to ensure accuracy.
Battery Installation and Replacement
The device uses a TONO-PEN AVIA VET POWERCEL® battery pack. Proper installation involves inserting the battery pack and checking the LCD for battery status.
Performing IOP Measurements
A topical anesthetic should be applied to the animal's eye before measurement. The device should be held like a pencil, and the sensor lightly tapped on the corneal surface. The device will chirp for each valid reading, and a beep will indicate completion.
Maintenance and Storage
Regular cleaning of the tonometer tip is necessary to ensure accurate readings. The device should be stored with an OCU-FILM tip cover to protect it from contaminants. It should not be immersed in fluids or sterilized.
Troubleshooting
Common issues include failure in verification procedures, often due to debris around the sensor tip. Cleaning instructions are provided in the maintenance section.
Specifications
The device meets ISO 9001/13485 standards, ensuring quality manufacturing processes. It lists physical dimensions, environmental requirements, IOP measurement range, and electrical specifications. It also complies with electromagnetic emissions and immunity standards.
