INSTRUMENT STRINGERS The use of instrument stringers is integral to the preparation of instruments for sterilization. Stringers hold ring-handled instruments open during the cleaning process, to ensure the maximum surface area of the instruments are exposed to the cleaning solution. A closed instrument may conceal bioburden which, if left intact, would require additional cleaning methods. The open position of the instruments on the stringers also ensures better exposure to heated air drying, for quicker dry times.
