Head Lice Fact Sheet - 1

QUICK FACTS ABOUT HEAD LICE THE HEAD LICE LIFE CYCLE Hatches approximately 7 days after egg is laid Eggs are laid close to the hair shaft with a super glue like substance Reaches maturity approximately 2 - 3 weeks after hatching and can start laying eggs LICE INVASION An adult female louse can lay up to 8 eggs a day! That’s why it’s important to get rid of head lice and eggs as soon as you spot them. Continue to comb and check hair daily with the V-Comb to prevent further infestations. Combing is the most effective way to remove head lice and eggs from the hair. Head lice do not fly or jump, they have specially formed legs that allow them to cling onto the hair. They spread through direct head-to head contact that occurs when playing or hugging. Head lice rarely fall from the hair so it is uncommon to catch head lice from furniture or bedding. While cleaning furniture and changing bedding is not required to eliminate an active head lice infestation, you can wash sheets in hot water and vacuum furniture for added peace of mind. WHAT HAVE YOU SHARED LATELY? Avoid sharing hats, combs and other hair accessories. This will prevent an infestation from spreading and keep your family head lice free.
