Bipolar II Cap Surgical Technique Guide

Product catalog summary
Device Description
The Bipolar II Cap is used in hemi-arthroplasty for conditions such as femoral neck fracture, trauma, and early-stage avascular necrosis when the acetabulum is intact. It is intended for use with the UNITED Femoral System for both cemented and cementless procedures. Indications include non-inflammatory degenerative joint diseases, inflammatory degenerative joint diseases, correction of functional deformity, revision procedures, and treatment of certain femoral fractures.

Product Overview
The Bipolar II Cap features a one-piece assembly with a simple locking ring mechanism. It has a highly polished surface designed to reduce acetabular wear and an anti-rotation design with an outer beveled lip to minimize micromotion. The metal surface roughness exceeds ISO standards, and the polyethylene thickness is a minimum of 5 mm.

Surgical Overview
The surgical protocol involves four main steps: sizing the acetabulum, trial assembly and reduction, trial disassembly, and implant assembly. The Bipolar II Cap is available in sizes ranging from 38 mm to 56 mm in 1 mm increments.

Surgical Protocol
  • Size the Acetabulum: Use a preoperative template or measure the excised femoral head to estimate the acetabular size. Assemble the Bipolar Trial to the Bipolar Trial Handle to ensure it fits the patient's acetabulum.
  • Trial Assembly and Reduction: Assemble the corresponding size Femoral Head Trial to the Bipolar Trial, connect it to the Neck Trial, and perform the trial reduction.
  • Trial Disassembly: Use the Bipolar Trial Handle to disassemble the Bipolar Trial from the Femoral Head Trial.
  • Implant Assembly: Connect the Femoral Head Impactor to the Universal Handle and impact the femoral head until it is firmly seated. Push the Bipolar II Cap onto the femoral head.

Appendix
Includes instructions for implant disassembly using the Head Remover to push the inner ring of the Bipolar II Cap.
