Technology and Methodology
Acuros, developed by Transpire, Inc., is based on the Attila software and uses Grid-Based Boltzmann Solver (GBBS) technology. It deterministically solves the Linear Boltzmann Transport Equation, offering Monte Carlo-level accuracy without the wait.

Functionality
Initial plans are generated using TG43, with options for inhomogeneity correction using CT data. Acuros supports calculations in water or air and allows continued workstation use during processing. It includes a library of Varian applicators for accurate dose calculations.

Performance
Acuros calculations average 3-8 minutes, significantly faster than Monte Carlo methods. It supports all Varian HDR and PDR afterloaders.

Comparison with Monte Carlo
Acuros provides comparable dose distribution accuracy to Monte Carlo methods, with a root mean square difference of 1.18% and 100% voxel agreement under 2%/2 mm DTA criteria.
